The Down South Jazz Club returns to Club Sapphire on Thursday 20th January, with ‘An Intimate Evening with Angela & Wayne’ featuring Angela Lount on vocals and Wayne Kelly on piano. Angela & Wayne are part of popular Canberra band, Angela Lount and the Fedoras, who have become a regular band for the Down South Jazz Club’s January gig. Singer Angela Lount brings her soulful and blues voice for a more intimate evening with Canberra piano legend Wayne Kelly. A popular and entertaining singer, she is able to lure you onto the dance floor. She was a member of the Woden Valley Youth Choir for five years and has toured Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK with them. She then became a member of the Darkside Divas, an all-female group. The incredible jazz pianist Wayne Kelly has been a professional musician for over 30 years. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Jazz Studies, both from ANU. Wayne has performed or recorded with many notable musicians including James Morrison, Andrew Speight, Don Burrows and Andrew Dickeson. He has performed extensively overseas and has also toured with many artists, including Judith Durham and Don Burrows, as well as performing at jazz festivals in Australia. Wayne performs as a solo jazz pianist as well as with his own trio and with larger ensembles. For the past few years, the Wayne Kelly trio have had a residency at the iconic cafe, Tilley’s. This jazz night will cost $15 for jazz club members and $25 for visitors. Bookings can be made by emailing [email protected] or using the form on the Whats On page of the DSJC website.
