Jazz music will continue

As curfews exist around the island, bars and other places of entertainment are trying to find creative, practical and safe ways to support their industry and keep the public entertained. Because everyone needs to have fun right now and there is nothing like great music to lift your spirits.

And so, concerts are to take place in Nicosia in the next few days. A music venue that continues its weekly life is Sarah’s Jazz Club. Christina Argyri and her friends were scheduled to perform on November 13, however, there was a last minute change. Instead, Sarah herself will perform classic jazz songs accompanied by Marios Toumbas on piano, Michael Messios on double bass and Marios Spyrou on drums.

The following evening, Saturday the 14th, the famous Zilla Project will take the stage for an evening of their signature energetic blues. Popular frontman Big Mo aka Emmanuel Vourakis will perform vocals and electric guitar, Loizos Pafitis will create a convincing blues groove on electric bass and Stefanos PP Meletiou will lead a vigorous rhythm on drums. Finally, Andreas Millnes plans to grab the piano.

The last event of the month at Sarah’s has a Latin twist as Cuban band Havana Noche returns on November 27 for an energetic live to the beats of Latin music. The group was formed in Cyprus by percussionist Constandinos Paouros and participating musicians from Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela and Cyprus. Their music is based on authentic Cuban musical genres such as Cubano sound, salsa, timba and cha cha. Their repertoire is uplifting and encouraging and my boy, we surely need that energy right now.
