Pep Guardiola and how jazz music, fish and chips and Juan Mata inspired Man City’s triumph
Manchester City boss has a local location he frequents with his team to study future opponents
Pep Guardiola has joined Manchester since joining City from Bayern Munich two years ago.
The Spaniard won the Premier League and the League Cup last season and envisions more success this quarter after acquiring Riyad Mahrez for a club-record £ 60million.
But when City are not in action, close friend Domenec Torrent has revealed Guardiola’s usual place in the city to play.
âWith Pep and Mikel, we often went to watch the Premier League or the Champions League in the restaurant – Juan Mata’s restaurant,â Torrent said, referring to the popular Tapeo restaurant in Deansgate.

âWe would have a private room with a TV and we have done this several times. Yes, it’s Manchester United but it’s Juan Mata – and he’s a friend.
âIt was not a problem for Pep to walk the streets to go to a restaurant, it is not a problem.
“It’s very different in Barcelona because he was a legend and people had a lot of passion for Pep.”
Torrent reveals Pep’s preference for background music while plotting the demise of his opponents is jazz music.
âJust relaxing music – jazz, maybe Sade. Not rock music,â Torrent said.
âPep likes music in general and I’m the same. We always worked in the office with music. Not the saxophone though.
âWe can create a big band, because in Manchester with the staff, there are at least three or four who play the guitar, the piano.
“Mikel Arteta? This is the singer.
While Pep is happy to swap tapas for local specialties – at least during the season.
Torrent claims Pep loves English food, although he’s made sure he gets a taste of home with his place now at Catalan restaurant Tast.
âThe fish and chips were amazing, traditional English,â Torrent added. “Vinny Kompany told me about it and it was amazing.”
Will Manchester City retain the title this season?
